Lining the Eyes

Line both top and bottom with a black eyeliner

After priming and prepping the eye area you should now focus on lining both the top and bottom lids. For a smokey eye you should use a dark eye liner, get the line as close to the lashes as possible, and make the line a little thicker than normal. In this tutorial we used Stila's Covertible Eye Color liner in Onyx, which is a creamy retractable liner that comes with a wonderful smudging tip. But if you are strapped for cash, you can try the Wet n Wild IdolEyes Retractable Eye Pencil in Midnight Black (Vendor Site) for a lot less.

This tutorial uses black eye liner but feel free to experiment with different shades or even glittery eye liner. Just remember to follow the rules of lining by starting at the out corners and drawing a line to the middle of the eye, then switching to the other corner and doing the same until the lines are connected. Also focus on the middle of the eye and the outer corner as well. The line here can be thicker than at the inside corner of the eye, and don't forget to extend the liner past your natural eye line on the outside corner.
