The Vampire costume has always been a big hit, but this year it seems even hotter after the release of the "Twilight" movies and the newer TV shows such as "The Vampire Diaries" and "The Gates". The normal vampire look is pale and powdery skin with either dark red or blood red lips, followed by darker eye makeup. This will give you the base look, so you can add your own ideas for the perfect vampire costume. Some examples may be a contoured cheek bone, dark under eye circles, shimmery skin, or even fake blood dripping from your mouth.

To get the base look, here is what you will need:

Face

  • White cream makeup base, such as KohGenDo Aqua Foundation Illuminator (Compare Prices) or White Grease Makeup (Compare Prices). Use the white base all over your face and neck, including the eye area.
  • Very light foundation, such as KohGenDo Maifanshi Moisture Foundation in 001 (Compare Prices) or Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse Foundation (Compare Prices) applied lightly over the white base.
  • White or very light face powder, such as Bobbi Brown Sheer Finish Pressed Powder in White (Compare Prices) or go more affordable with good old Johnson & Johnson Baby Powder (Compare Prices) over entire face and neck, blended out so you don't look "chalky". Make sure you are light-handed near the eye area since the powder will emphasize lines.
  • Eyes

  • Bold jet black eyeshadow, such as BareMinerals Liner Shadow in Soft Black (Compare Prices) or CoverGirl Eye Enhancers in Shimmering Onyx (Compare Prices) over your eye lids and then all the way up to the brow bone. Blend, blend blend onto the brow bone and then add a second layer over the eye lid area.
  • Black eyeliner, such as Stila Convertible Eye Color in Onyx (Compare Prices) or L’Oreal Le Kohl Eyeliner Pencil in Black (Compare Prices) around the entire eye, both inside and outside the rim of the eye. Extend the line slightly outwards past the outside corner of the eyes.
  • Black mascara that will give you a lot of volume, such as L'Oreal Double Extend Beauty Tubes (Compare Prices) or Maybelline Colossal Volum Express Mascara (Compare Prices) on both top and bottom lashes. Just when you think two coats is enough, add two more. Just remember to allow each coat to dry first or you'll get clumps.
  • Lips

  • True red lip liner, such as Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Lip Pencil in Red(Compare Prices) or Prestige Waterproof Lip Liner in True Red (Buy Direct) lining your lips and filling them in completely.
  • Drop dead red lipstick, such as Estee Lauder Double Wear Lipstick in Stay Scarlet (Compare Prices) or Revlon Super Lustrous Crème Lipstick in Love that Red (Compare Prices) over your entire lips.
  • Red lip gloss, such as Luna Twilight 'Femme Fatale' Lip Gloss in Chevy (Compare Prices) or L'Oreal Infallible Lipgloss in Rebel Red (Compare Prices) over the entire lips to finish that blood red vampire lip look.
