These foundations have two things in common: they can all be considered "splurge" foundations because they start at $45 and go up from there, and they are all foundations that you need to try at least once in your lifetime. Think of this list as your foundation and beauty attachment to the "bucket list". So budget accordingly, if needed, and get ready to treat your face like royalty (or at least like a celebrity).
This has always been one of my personal favorites. The Mat Lumiere Luminous Matte Powder Makeup gives your skin a natural matte finish and can be used either wet or dry. Applying it wet gives a heavier coverage than when used dry. I used to use it wet and then buff lightly with a dry application with the opposite side of the applicator sponge. This gave me flawless looking skin. Then after work I would use the powder dry to touch up and head out with my friends for a night on the town.
The foundation also has an added SPF10 for some sun protection, and it contains light-reflecting pigments that help to minimize any fine lines and wrinkles that you may have. And even though it's a powder it feels very silky and smooth, unlike many other powder foundations that can feel dry and heavy. It’s available in 12 shades, so matching your skin tone is pretty easy. And the big bonus is carrying the sleek black Chanel compact in your purse so you can nonchalantly take it out mid-evening to powder your nose for all to see.
If you have ever tried the Crème de la Mer then you should try The Treatment Crème Foundation with SPF15. I have not personally tried this yet but I can tell you that I have heard rave reviews from others. And I have felt the luxurious feeling of the Crème de la Mer, so since the foundation was inspired by it then there is no way that you can go wrong splurging on the foundation at least once in your lifetime.
Basically the foundation was engineered with gemstones that capture light energy to create a translucent palette, which more or less diminishes imperfections leaving you skin looking flawless. The foundation helps your skin look more radiant, but it also helps to restore firmness and resilience as well. Also, according to people that have used The Treatment Crème Foundation, it covers very well while looking dewy and fresh on the skin. Plus, it's concentrated so a little bit goes a long way which will make the hefty price tag easier to swallow.
If you can afford this foundation then I hear that it's worth the sacrifices that you have to make in order to save up for it. While most of us won't think twice about dropping over $100 on skin care products, foundation doesn't always get the same response. La Prairie's Skin Caviar Concealer Foundation tops the mark at $180, and even though I have not sampled this luxury yet it is on my list of foundations to try at least once.
The product is actually two in one, where you get a concealer and a foundation. It even comes with a concealer brush for easier application. And don't let the name fool you because the foundation is infused with Caviar Extract. So what does it do for you? No, it won't clean your house or take care of your children, but it will firm and protect your skin while counteracting the signs of aging. Women that have tried it seem to think that it's the best thing since sliced bread, and they also point out that one bottle will last a long time.
I have used this foundation and my first impression was that 29 Cosmetics VARIETALS Hydrating Foundation was actually going to give Chanel a run for their money. The packaging is very simple and beautiful, but it's the foundation itself that was utterly fabulous. Formulated with grape seed extract, the formula is very lightweight on the skin and not greasy. Instead it feels luxurious and it left my skin looking flawless yet dewy at the same time.
The grape seed extract was one of the reasons why I contacted their PR department for a sample. Grape seed extract is rich in anti-oxidants, which help to nourish and protect your skin from environmental damage. But, as many of you have probably heard lately, it is also a great extract at fighting the signs of aging. Anything that has to do with keeping me looking young, sign me up for! And even though this foundation runs less than some of the others on this list, it still prices at around $54, so it's not like you can grab the loose change from your change cup and rush out to buy it. It is worth every penny, however, and I would definitely recommend adding it to your beauty "bucket list".
I have yet to try this one, but all I ever hear and read are rave reviews of the DiorSkin AirFlash Spray Foundation. Besides being a Dior foundation, the other huge positive is the fact that it's a spray so it gives an airbrush quality to the skin. The foundation doesn't get into fine lines and instead it actually makes them less apparent. DiorSkin AirFalsh Spray Foundation will even out your skin's texture and will last all day while doing it.
Women that have tried this foundation love it and one woman on the Total Beauty Site thought that it felt so light that it was almost like second skin. Priced at around $60 it makes its' way to the beauty "bucket list", but this one could be so addictive that once you try it you may splurge to buy it all of the time.
This is an actual makeup system, complete with an airbrush device and makeup pods. The result is pro-quality high definition makeup in your own home. The foundation itself is breathable on the skin while still covering flaws and imperfections. The formula is perfect for all skin types and contains a special complex that diffuses the look of fine lines and wrinkles. The finished look is natural and will wear all day.
I have yet to try Temptu AIRbrush Makeup System, but it is available in 12 shades plus multiple makeup products such as powder, blush, and highlighter to name a few. The splurge comes from the AIRbrush system itself, which runs around $225. The makeup pods are an additional $55, but you get two for that price. So to get a start on this line you will drop at least $280 to begin with, which is why it has landed on the list of foundations you need to try at least once. Of course, once you get over the splurge of buying the machine the foundation isn't priced too bad so it could be your new favorite moderately prices makeup find.
I was fortunate enough to try this foundation before it was released in the US. It ended up being one of my favorites from the splurge list of foundations for many reasons. KohGenDo Aqua Foundation is a high definition foundation so it minimizes flaws and signs of aging while allowing your skin to breath. The really great thing about this foundation is that you can apply more over the first application whenever you want, even if its 6 hours later, and it won't look dry or cakey. As a bonus you can also apply the foundation via airbrush instead of the regular methods.
The secret with KohGenDo Aqua Foundation is the Water Strobe Technology that keeps your skin looking fabulous, like if you just had a moisturizing spa treatment. So I guess that you could call it a multi-tasker since you get the benefit of makeup and skin care at the same time. The price is what lands it on the list at around $55. It's more affordable than some and it will last a while without going rancid because of the pump applicator. It’s a definite must-have at some point in your life.
