What to Ask and What to Do

Ask Questions

Don't be afraid to ask questions about anything. After all, you are the one spending the money, not the beauty advisor. This is important, especially with new products or when you are buying products from a free makeover. If you feel like you're not sure about how to do something or how something works, then be sure to ask. The beauty advisors are there to help you, not just to get you to buy their products. I can honestly say that there are no stupid questions, and I heard some great ones.

One of the most important times to ask questions is during and after a makeover. If you aren’t sure how to do something then ask and they will show you. When your makeover is finished, also remember to go over everything you are purchasing before they ring it up. I want to stress this because sometimes you may have a makeover where you know you want to buy all new makeup. This can start to pile up and add up as well, so you need to make sure the beauty advisor gets you the correct products. Plus, by making sure you have everything you need you will not have to make an extra trip back to the makeup counter and risk buying even more.

Finally, whether you are purchasing something or not don't be afraid to ask for a free sample. You should definitely ask for a free sample if you are purchasing something, and ask for several if you are buying more than 5 items. I do want to warn you about samples though. Sometimes the cosmetic companies are strict at times in regards to giving out samples without purchasing. So if you ask for a sample without buying anything and you're told that they cannot give you one or they are out, then you know why you're not leaving the store with a freebie.

Wrapping Up

So, to wrap up, try to make a list of what you need or want, or at least keep one in your head. Keep your blinders on when you approach the makeup counter; otherwise you will end up touching or applying something, or even in the makeup chair, which means you are probably going to buy something you didn't need. Remember that the sales people are there to do a job, which is selling you products. So don't give in to them suggesting extra items to accompany your purchase if you don't need it. Also, don't be lured in by the freebie "carrot". Freebies are great and they are very hard to turn down, but just say no if you don't need anything else.

Also, don't be afraid to ask questions about how to use a product or what it actually does. If you are spending money on items, then you should know how to use them and why. Remember that if you are purchasing at least 5 products or more to ask for multiple samples. Don't be afraid to ask for a sample anyway, but if you are buying that much in products you deserve a little something if they have it. They will want to keep you happy and have you return to their makeup counter in the future, so use it to your advantage.

Finally, the third part of this series will cover the final battle between you and the makeup counter; the dreaded returned items. Since the makeup counter can be a little intimidating anyway, I'm going to show you the proper way to return something without having your name black-listed. So look for "Round Three" soon.
