After trying numerous higher priced mascaras I still find myself going back to Cargo's blu_ray Mascara (Read Review). I initially tried this mascara in the spring when I came across Cargo's blu_ray collection at Sephora. The reason I love this mascara is not only for the fabulous formula that contains Panthenol and Keratin to help strengthen your lashes, but also for the innovative wand. If you have not tried Cargo's blu_ray Mascara yet, then you will definitely be surprise by the shape of the applicator. Instead of a traditionally shaped mascara brush, Cargo came up with this really fabulous applicator that resembles a miniature comb.
The combination of the formula and the innovative applicator leaves you with beautifully strengthened lashes that are well defined from root to tip without any signs of clumping. There are two big positives about the blu_ray mascara wand. First it is extremely easy to apply the mascara to each and every lash, from root to tip. And second, it is very easy to use for building and volumizing the outside corners of your lashes without being left with smudges and clumps. Since the wand resembles a comb, it actually works double-time to coat your lashes and remove any clumps at the same time. So even though I love other high-end mascaras, I have to say that Cargo's blu_ray Mascara has ended up being my favorite mascara splurge of the year.

•Maybelline Colossal Volum' Express Mascara
Just because a mascara is priced at under half the cost of a high-end mascara, doesn't mean that it won't get the job done and then some. Maybelline New York, who are the masterminds behind the original cult favorite Great Lash Mascara, have come up with another Mascara hit with Maybelline Colossal Volum' Express Mascara (Read Review). The formula for the mascara actually contains collagen, which helps to coat and thicken your lashes without clumping. As for the applicator wand, well let's just say that it is ginormous.
So what is it about this mascara as a whole that made me choose it as my top mascara splurge? Besides the innovative collagen formula and the huge applicator wand, I absolutely love that there was no clumping, smudging or flaking, and Maybelline's claims of increasing your lashes 9-times with only one coat were absolutely true. Even though I have read other reviews of clumping and not volumizing correctly, I would have to think that this must be due to "operator error". Problems can arise with such a big wand if you do not allow the first application to dry a little, if you pump your mascara and infuse it with air before applying, or if you just get a randomly bad mascara. Personally, I didn't have any problems with the mascara I tried and on the days when I want out of this world huge lashes, I use it instead of my Cargo blu_ray Mascara. The bonus is that at the end of the day, all I have to do is wash my face as usual and it comes right off. This is why Maybelline Colossal Volum' Express Mascara has ended up being my favorite mascara steal of the year.
