Who is Involved

The American Cancer Society, along with the National Cosmetology Association and the Personal Care Products Council Foundation, has a wonderful program to help people with cancer to "Look Good" and "Feel Better". This national program was founded in 1989 by the Personal Care Products Council Foundation, which is a charitable organization that is part of the trade association which spearheads the cosmetic industry. Every year the cosmetics industry donates around $10-million in cosmetics to the program, which is roughly one million pieces of product.

Who Can Benefit

This wonderful program can be utilized by any woman around the world who is a cancer patient going through radiation or chemotherapy treatments. There are also Spanish programs, a program for teens that fall between the ages of 13 to 17, and even a program to help men through "self-help".

The Program

The Look Good…Feel Better® program offers help with not only makeup, but also with skin care and hair. The makeup area of the program offers a fabulous makeup kit, filled with products from the cosmetic company donations, and personal hands-on tips and techniques from licensed and trained cosmetologists. They cover every aspect of makeup needs, from concealer to finger nails. The LGFB website also offers Before and After photos to show various wonderful outcomes from recipients of the program.

Other than makeup, the LGFB program also helps cancer patients with tips and techniques, especially when having to endure radiation treatments. The program also helps with any hair loss concerns, and for those that lose their hair the program can assist them with wigs and hair coverings.

Locations for the program are worldwide. There are programs available in the United States, Argentina, Australia, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Ireland, Israel, Italy, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Singapore, South Africa, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. The program is available in every state in the United States from the American Cancer Society, whereas the international programs are operated independently but still share the same goals. You can also find help and more information through the Look Good, Feel Better website, or by calling 1-800-395-LOOK.
