Guide Review - Review of "Get Positively Beautiful" by Carmindy
I love books in general, so when you hand me a beauty book filled with makeup ideas I dive right in. The bad thing is that I tend to read the book, ready to critique any odd makeup tips or applications. Sometimes I catch one or two that are a little out there, but with Carmindy's "Get Positively Beautiful" I couldn't find any. I was a big fan of her first book "5-Minute Face", so I wasn't surprised to find more great makeup application tips and product ideas.
The only thing I just couldn't get on board with were the "Mirror Mantras", otherwise known as affirmations. I'm all for positive thinking, but I am not the type to have to look into the mirror and verbally say it to myself. Nevertheless I'm sure there are numerous people that do benefit from this, so it's actually nice to see that she added it beside the beauty tips.
Overall, the breakdown of each area of the face into a single chapter was great. It allowed her to focus solely on one area and give some really great tips and techniques. This took up approximately half of the book, which left the other half to some really great ideas such as what makeup to carry or have hidden where, seasonal makeup ideas, makeup for different moods, a really cool shopping guide with different price points, and some really fabulous before and after photos. The bottom line is that no matter if you have been wearing makeup for one year or fifty, anyone and everyone can learn something both positive and useful from "Get Positively Beautiful". This is a definite must-have for all avid beauty book collectors.
